By extending the footings just a little bit lower it creates an entire additional level to your home - at a very small premium. If your lot has sloping topography a walkout basement is the perfect solution that can take advantage of the daylight condition. Or if your lot has just a little bit of slope perhaps it can accommodate a lookout configuration which also allows daylight to your basement.
