Marine Farmhouse - Is this a contemporary cottage house plan or a modern American farmhouse home design? The Marine Farmhouse exemplifies the kind of homes we are trying to create at Simply Elegant Home Designs. The home demonstrates a comfortable blend of traditional form and subtle contemporary details wrapped around an extremely flexible and livable floor plan.
This simple yet unique house plan was originally designed and constructed for a site that had a beautiful back yard setting of woods and a stream. The house plan takes advantage of that by spreading the interior spaces out across the width and through the abundant use of windows.
One approaches the home via a continuous open porch, unencumbered by columns spanning the entire width of the house. An exterior “nook” provides the perfect place to have a cup of coffee and to watch the world go by. A similar open porch at the rear of the home provides an environment with more solitude.
The interior of the main floor features a functional mudroom, a mini office and an open floor plan filled with light from all directions. Upstairs 3 bedrooms are neatly tucked in under a sloping ceiling - just like grandmas house. Cleverly placed dormers provide the interior spaces with additional natural light and views.
Foundation
The Marine Farmhouse plan comes with a crawl space foundation. This could easily be adapted by your local Architect or Builder to accommodate a full basement, or other lot configurations.
